Parents and other interested citizens who felt the need
for a safe and friendly independent school in the Pittsylvania County area founded Woodlawn Academy in 1970. The founders desired an institution which would provide a
climate in which to conserve and promote good citizenship, patriotism, and a high standard of moral and spiritual
values in each individual child.
Woodlawn emphasizes academics, enrichment activities, and Christian ideals to help students develop a strong
sense of individual responsibility, of family, and of community.Given the varying social, physical, intellectual, spiritual, and emotional needs of our students, Woodlawn Academy encourages the development of the whole person.

The school fosters an open atmosphere by teaching our children the value of academic inquiry, the pursuit of knowledge, and the gratification of personal growth.
Woodlawn is operated by the Pittsylvania County
Education Foundation, Inc. and is accredited by the
Virginia Independent School Association (VISA). The Academy serves approximately 190 students with 24 teachers and staff.
